The Chase County Bulldogs overcame a late-game flurry to defeat the Lebo Wolves 44-36 Friday night.
The Bulldogs took an early 12-0 lead thanks to two rushing touchdowns by quarterback Mitchell Budke. Lebo would manage to cut the lead to four before the Bulldogs added two more scores to extend the lead 20.
Lebo would manage to respond before the half to trail 28-16 heading into the locker room. The Wolves would continue their momentum early in the second half with a 10-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Kyle Reese before Budke answered with a 44-yard touchdown run of his own.
In the fourth, Lebo held Chase County scoreless early, and managed to tie the ball game 36-36 but could not contain the Bulldogs as Budke would score from one yard out to secure the win.
Budke led his team offensively with 185 yards rushing with four touchdowns and 117 yards passing and two touchdowns from the air. Budke says their team rose to the challenge late in the game.
Chase County Head Coach Brodie Vandegrift tipped his hat to Lebo saying they pushed them to the limit.
Kyle Reese led Lebo offensively with 207 yards rushing and four touchdowns from the ground with 72 yards passing and one touchdown through the air.
With the victory, Chase County now improves to 2-0 on the season as Lebo falls to 1-1.
