The Emporia High football team came up short in a 36-32 loss to Topeka West in what was a wild finish Friday night.
Trailing 28-16 Emporia High would score on an 85 pass from Cam Geitz to Parker Leeds to make it a 28-24 game with 2:17 to play. West scored on their next offensive play to take a 36-24 lead.
Emporia High came back and scored on a 64-yard pass from Cam Geitz to Parker Leeds with 45 seconds to play. The Spartans recovered the onside kick, and a pass into the endzone as time expired was incomplete.
Emporia High Coach Keaton Tuttle liked the way the Spartans kept battling.
Cam Geitz also threw touchdown passes to Bobby Trujillo and to Sheldon Steward and finished with 221 passing yards.
Emporia High is now 0-2 they are scheduled to play at Topeka High next Thursday.
