Part of the Emporia Farmers Market’s activities Wednesday will be a special giveaway by one of the city’s longstanding service clubs.
The Emporia Lions Club is giving away redbud trees free of charge, and club spokesman Gary Post says the giveaway helps to celebrate the club’s 100th year of service to the community and the area.
The club has 750 “container-grown” redbud trees, courtesy of the Kansas Forest Service in Manhattan. Post says residents can take one tree or they can take several if they wish. A similar giveaway last year cleared out around 750 trees in less than 45 minutes.
The market will be at the Seventh and Merchant parking lot and will run from 5-6:30 pm.
