Flint Hills Technical College welcomed some important visitors to campus Monday evening as the college’s re-accreditation process continues.
Following the FHTC Board of Directors monthly meeting, the board and college leadership sat down with members of the Higher Learning Commission’s evaluation team. FHTC Vice President of Student Services Lisa Kirmer says preparation for the visit has been ongoing for roughly the last two years.
Accreditation is an important process for colleges and universities because it demonstrates higher education is fulfilling its mission. Additionally, Kirmer explains that all higher education institutions have to be accredited in order to provide financial aid and other essential resources to their students.
While speaking with KVOE News, Kirmer stated she feels the college steadily grows with every re-accreditation process as it provides ample time for self-reflection and improvement.
The site visit officially concluded Tuesday at noon and Kirmer feels it “went very well” based on feedback and input from HLC representatives. Kirmer says the college is expecting to hear back from the HLC within the next month.
