Crews from several fire departments and Lyon County deputies helped to put out a house fire late Tuesday night, but not before the home was destroyed.
Lyon County Sgt. Zach Shafer says crews from Hartford-Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Gridley, as well as deputies, were called to 2294 Road 40 south of Hartford around 11:15 pm. Shafer says the house, owned by Christopher Miller, was a total loss but there were no injuries reported.
Hartford-Neosho Rapids Fire Chief Greg Zumbrunn says Amish residents in the area were using that address to sell baked goods. There is currently no word on the equipment that was lost due to the fire.
The early indications are a kerosene lamp wasn’t fully extinguished, causing the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
