Shane Brunner is getting adjusted to his new role as director of Lyon County Area Transportation.
Brunner replaces District Court Trustee Mike Halleran after serving three years as LCAT’s finance officer, and he says he’s not planning change just for the sake of change.
As Brunner takes over, plans are in the works for several adjustments — but COVID-19 mitigation measures aren’t on that list for now. Masks are mandatory until at least mid-January because of guidance from the Transportation Security Administration. Cleaning protocols will remain at high levels until further notice and hand sanitizers may become a permanent fixture. Drivers will also be surrounded by plexiglass in all directions.
Having said that, LCAT is working its way back to relatively normal ridership numbers after it went from 4,000 rides a month to around 1,200 at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s now around 3,000 and climbing, and LCAT has added a new phone line to handle peak demand.
In addition, Brunner is nearing the end of a longstanding project to give LCAT buses a new paint wrap scheme. LCAT is also in the early research processes for possibly moving out of the Courthouse Annex into a new facility that would combine operations and the bus barn in one location.
