Jobless rates stayed flat between July and August, according to Kansas Labor Secretary Amber Shultz.
The 3.8 percent jobless rate for August was over 2 full percentage points lower than the 6.2 percent reported for August 2020.
Locally, Emporia’s jobless rate went down from 4.3 percent in July to 3.7 percent in August. That was also lower than the 5 percent mark for August 2020. Lyon County had identical numbers.
Areawide, all area counties had declines, mostly under half a percentage point. Morris County has the lowest unemployment number areawide at 3.1 percent, followed closely by Chase and Wabaunsee counties at 3.2 percent. Only Coffey County is above 4 percent at 4.1 percemt, but it also had the largest monthly decline at 0.7 percent.
