After receiving a six-figure grant earlier this month, Empower House Ministries is moving forward with locking down a location to house its services.
KVOE reported on Sept. 8 that the Sutherland Foundation had awarded a $100,000 grant to the up and coming agency which Director Melissa Landis, a recent guest of KVOE’s Morning Show, says will go towards purchasing and updating a main facility. According to Landis, they currently have one property in mind for just that purpose, however, it will need some extensive work.
Empower House offers a faith-based approach to give female addicts stability and temporary housing as they work on their recoveries for the long term. The agency is also planning to offer special clinics that teach women in recovery what founder Gayle Taylor-Ford refers to as “adulting skills.”
Landis says there has always been a prominent need for services such as those offered by Empower House in the Emporia community. She says that need has only intensified since the closing of Plumb Place.
At this time, Landis says they are looking into several facilities, however, the main building they have in mind could potentially house 14 residents at one time.
