A Council Grove man was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of bringing contraband into the Morris County Jail among other offenses.
Council Grove Police Chief Shawn Wangerin says officers were dispatched to Park Lane in Council Grove on Saturday for a hit-and-run crash. Officers later arrested Jeffrey Long on suspicion of introducing contraband, driving under the influence, driving while a habitual violator, failure to report a crash and unlawfully obtaining prescription drugs.
Morris County deputies helped with the investigation.
Long’s arrest follows an arrest from earlier in the month involving an Emporia man and an “alleged high-risk” traffic stop. Wangerin says officers were dispatched east of the city for a possibly stolen vehicle. Officers confirmed it was stolen out of Emporia and took Emporian Derek Stevens into custody without incident. Stevens was booked on suspicion of felony possession of stolen property.
