Rain and power outages became unscheduled parts of the Olpe Downhome Fall Festival on Saturday.
The prospect of weekend rain had been in the forecast the past several days, but a trio of outages developed shortly after noon — as the morning round of activities was nearing an end. Regardless, residents were pleased with yet another chance to raise money for a new splash pad at Olpe Jones Park. Cakewalk organizer Lucille Barb says the splash pad makes a lot of sense as a new addition to the park.
Morning activities included a 5-K run-walk, archery, kickball and vintage games, with evening activities including bingo and drawings for two quarter-beef portions.
Totals will be announced soon. Olpe’s about halfway to its goal of $50,000 for the spray park.
