This is a busy week when you look at the upcoming election.
First, the registration deadline is at 5 pm Tuesday. If you need to register or change your registration, you need to go to the County Courthouse to handle that business.
Ballots will be mailed to residents requesting them on Wednesday. The last day to apply for those is Oct. 26.
Advance voting begins at the Lyon County Courthouse on Oct. 18. That continues from 8 am to 5 pm weekdays until noon Nov. 1, the day before the election.
In addition, Lyon County will have its only offsite voting event of the cycle Saturday at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Hours will be from 9 am to 2 pm, and Lyon County Clerk Tammy Vopat says this will be a convenient way to vote.
KVOE News also has its Candidate Forums dedicated to the USD 253 Emporia Board of Education taking place. On Tuesday, our candidates are incumbent Mike Crouch and challengers Lillian Lingenfelter and Paul Meinke. On Thursday, our candidates are hopefuls Christina Faulkner, Jami Reever and Jennifer Thomas.
If you have questions for the candidates, call during the programs at 620-342-5863 or message your questions to the Bluestem Farm and Ranch text line using the same number. Also, as the election draws near, be sure to browse the KVOE-Community National Bank and Trust Voter Information page online here. The page includes information about candidates, upcoming deadlines, Candidate Forums, advance voting procedures and polling locations.
