With over 29,000 items collected through the 20th annual KVOE Drive For Food Thursday, Salvation Army Lt. Mylie Hadden was very pleased to say:
All donations collected Thursday will benefit both the Salvation Army Food Pantry and USD 253 Emporia Spartan Stop. Hadden says the Salvation Army’s shelves will be full for months thanks to the generosity of the community.
KVOE Station Manager Ron Thomas thanked all of the community members and organizations that gave to the drive.
Among the many generous organizations was ESB Financial which brought in around 4,800 items. ESB Marketing Officer Candace Wakeman says they had a blast gathering items for the drive.
Timmerman Elementary School brought in over 2,500 items thanks to students and staff donations. Timmerman teacher Ashley Mawdsley says they’re always excited for an opportunity to support a great cause while teaching their students the importance of helping others.
Riverside Elementary also contributed more than 2,100 items for the drive.
In addition to KVOE staff, Thomas Transfer, BSA Troop 157, Cub Scout Troop 45 and a raft of volunteers assisted in collecting donations Thursday.
