Lyon County Commissioners have green-lit needed repair work for a county bridge.
During their weekly action session Thursday, commissioners approved a bid from A.M. Cohron & Son, Inc. in the amount of $615,202.52 for a bridge redecking project. The bridge in question, located near the APAC Quarry on Road Z, has needed the repair work for some time according to Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull.
Brull says the remainder of the structure is still “in good shape” meaning the redecking will allow the county to get several more years of service out of the bridge.
Earlier this year, the Lyon County Highway Department applied to and was approved for a Kansas Department of Transportation reimbursement program that will see a portion of the funds invested in the project return to the county. Brull tells KVOE News that of the $615,202 the county will be reimbursed $398,744.
Word on when the project will officially begin is currently pending.
In other business, commissioners revisited a tabled item from their previous action session from Lyon County Zoning and Flood Plain Manager Sam Seeley. Seeley presented a contract with Schneider Geospatial in the amount of $33,520 to construct a web portal to handle permitting for zoning and floodplain matters.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene next Thursday at 9 am inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
