A duplex unit has been deemed “unlivable” following an early evening fire in Emporia Thursday night.
Emporia Fire was called to a duplex at 425 Neosho Street shortly after 7 pm for a report of a fire in the residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic and managed to quell the flames inside in roughly 15 minutes according to Battalion Chief Eron Steinlage.
The cause and origination point of the fire are under investigation, however, the damage to the upstairs unit of the duplex was extensive. Steinlage says no injuries resulted from the fire and one pet inside the unit was rescued unharmed.
Emporia Fire is handling the investigation.
