Two members of the Emporia High girls golf team have advanced to day 2 of the 5A State tournament beginning in Hutchinson at Carey Park.
Avary Eckert shot a first-round 78 and is in 3rd place. She is 2 strokes back of the leaders Libby Green of Mill Valley and Kinslea Jones of Maize. Both shot a 1st round 76.
Olivia Eckert shot an 88 and is in 14th place. Ella Fessler finished tied for 46th place. Missing the cut by 3 strokes. Lacy Rust finished in 87th place.
Kapaun Mt. Carmel has the team lead. Hays is in 2nd place, Mill Valley 3rd, Blue Valley Southwest 4th, Maize 5th, and St. Thomas Aquinas is in 6th place.
Emporia High is in 8th place.
At the 6A tournament being played at the Emporia golf course, Washburn Rural is in 1st place, Blue Valley West is 2nd, and Shawnee Mission East 3rd. Olathe West, Olathe East, and Olathe West also advanced to day 2 as teams.
Individually Tess Roman of Shawnee Mission East is in 1st place with a 72.
