Two vehicles were totaled, however, no serious injuries were reported following a dump truck and pickup collision north of Emporia Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred at the intersection of Road 220 and K four miles north of Emporia around 7:40 am. According to Lyon County Deputy Brandon Early, the dump truck, driven by 48-year-old Juan Lopez Duarte of Emporia, was traveling westbound on 220 and failed to yield the right of way.
Duarte’s vehicle then broadsided the driver side of a pickup truck driven by 67-year-old Larry Kusmaul of Allen. Kusmaul suffered minor injuries, a laceration to the head, and Duarte was complaining of back pain following the accident, however, both refused a trip to the hospital.
Both vehicles suffered significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. Both Kusmaul and Duarte were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the accident.
