Progress is moving slowly but surely forward at the new Emporia Rescue Mission facility.
Rescue Mission Director Lee Alderman provided an update on KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday morning saying they have been delayed slightly from moving into their new facility at 1236 East 12th, the former Amend Girl Scout Center. He says shipping delays and a backlog at the state Fire Marshall’s Office are two of the key factors in the delay.
The Rescue Mission purchased its new facility earlier this year after raising over $400,000 and has conducted several renovations on the space including converting the former office spaces into residential areas. The Rescue Mission held an open house for the general public close to three months ago.
Alderman tells KVOE News the new facility is “amazing” as it has everything they have needed in order to serve the men in their care. In addition to the new facility, Alderman reports the mission will also be providing new services including counseling, career mentoring and donations of new work boots courtesy of Fannestil Meats.
Alderman says he is hopeful they will be fully moved into the new facility before the winter season.
