The final paranormal investigation for the foreseeable future took place inside Plumb Place Saturday evening.
The sold-out Farewell to the Spirits of Plumb Place event, organized by Flint Hills Paranormal and the Plumb Place Steering committee, gave residents the opportunity to explore the home, attempt to commune with spirits and take part in a special ceremony at the end of the evening offering any spirits that wished to “cross over” a chance to do so. Flint Hills Paranormal has led investigations of Plumb Place twice before as part of an event called Spooktember.
Flint Hills Paranormal senior investigator Brandy Nance says every event they have held inside the home has been sold out and thanked the community for their continued support. Nance feels Saturday’s investigation was not only a great opportunity for the community to have one last chance to say goodbye to the historic home, but also an opportunity for the spirits themselves to gain a sense of closure.
United Way Director Mickey Edwards was extremely pleased with Saturday’s turnout and says the steering committee felt it was important to give the community an opportunity to say goodbye to a building that has been a major fixture in Emporia’s history since it was built over 100 years ago.
Edwards says while the home is set to be sold, the agency itself is “not going anywhere” as the Steering Committee is currently working to find new staff and a new location to continue providing services to women in crisis situations. Donations and ticket sales from Saturday’s event will benefit the re-establishment of services in the community after the agency shut down last year due to ongoing financial difficulties.
The home is set to be placed on the market next week according to Edwards. Saturday’s event follows an auction of the home’s contents on Oct. 9 that generated around $16,000 to restart services to women in crisis.
Totals from the event are pending.
