The Emporia State football team held on for a 24-21 win over Missouri Southern Saturday.
Emporia State Coach Garin Higgins called it a tale of two halves.
The Hornets never trailed after building a 10-0 lead at the end of the 1st quarter. Sam Dobbins kicked a 28-yard field goal and Canaan Brooks scored on a 5-yard run.
The Hornets took a 17-6 lead on a 9-yard touchdown pass from Braden Gleason to Tyler Kahmann.
After Southern scored to cut the lead to 17-14, Emporia State answered with a 4-yard pass from Braden Gleason to Tyler Kahmann to bump the lead to 24-14.
Southern would cut the lead to 24-21 with 21 seconds to play.
Emporia State recovered the onside kick and ran out the clock.
Quarterback Braden Gleason threw for 219 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Tyler Kahmann finished with 9 catches for 71 yards and 2 scores.
Canaan Brooks rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown.
Emporia State improves to 4-4 for the season. They play at Fort Hays State next Saturday.
