Emporia State University students are hoping to make their ideas a reality Wednesday in an effort to better serve the Emporia community.
The final round of the Emporia Community Impact Challenge is coming Wednesday. A challenge is an annual event in which teams of students come together to develop ideas to address specific challenges facing the local community.
This year, three teams of students, each consisting of three to five members, will be presenting a 10 to 12-minute video detailing the challenge they have identified and their plan to address it and submit it to a judging panel made up of ESU and Emporia community members. The winning team will receive a $500 grant to put their plans into motion.
The finalist teams include:
The Campus Food Access: International Committee which includes Margaret Mellott, Aaron Clark, and Ryuto Sagawa and is focused on spreading awareness and connecting international students with food resources on campus.
Students Stomp the Stigma made up of Courtenay Craig, Whitney Mayberry and Sandra Koskela who are focused on student mental health both on the ESU campus and the surrounding community.
Happy Paws whose members include Kaci Rollmann, Eric Galbreath, Ana Valdez Saravia and Masayuki Kuraoka who are working to support the Humane Society of the Flint Hills with donations amid returns of “quarantine pets.”
The final presentations will be presented virtually Wednesday beginning at 5 pm. The presentation can be viewed at Emporia.edu/live.
