Gusty winds have been in place virtually all day Thursday. They will continue overnight.
Wind advisories for all area counties have been extended and now end at 7 am Friday. Overnight winds will be steadily as high as 35 mph, with gusts as high as 45-50 mph.
This follows a windy day areawide:
*Emporia Municipal Airport: 53 mph peak gust
*Burlington Airport: 47 mph peak gust
*Eureka Airport: 51 mph
Several peak gusts in central Kansas went above 65 mph, well over the 58 mph benchmark for severe thunderstorm activity.
There have been several small-scale power outages for Evergy customers across the KVOE listening area, including several in the Emporia city limits as well as near Lebo, Lyndon and Quincy. Over 60 Evergy customers in far southeast Emporia are currently offline after an outage developed shortly after 1:15 pm.
The wind issues combined with ongoing shower activity to make Thursday a damp, uncomfortable day. Rain totals since early Wednesday are as follows:

Wind advisories continue for all area counties until 7 pm with wind gusts already reaching 51 mph at the Emporia Municipal Airport and more gusts above 45 mph expected into early evening. Current peak gusts

The high winds have already led to several small power outages in Emporia with more possible. High-profile vehicles, namely semi trucks, will also have trouble if they are eastbound or westbound across the area.
Rainfall will likely end by early afternoon, with a chance of showers redeveloping after sunset. Current totals:

Three Lyon County roads — 150 between R and S, P between 140 and 150 and R between 150 and 160 — are still closed after anywhere from 1-4 inches of rainfall Saturday and lighter amounts Sunday. So far, no new road closures have been announced.
