One of five suspects in the murder of Jesus Avila could be certified as an adult after court proceedings Monday.
Alan Alanis has a motions hearing at 9 am. If approved by Judge Merlin Wheeler, Alanis would join Armando Nunez, Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde, Andrew Granado and Jovan Pecina in being tried as adults. All five were teenagers when Avila was killed in September 2017.
The Alanis hearing begins a busy time for hearings in the overall case. Cornejo-Campoverde, Granado and Nunez all have preliminary hearings beginning Nov. 8. Pecina has a preliminary hearing Dec. 20.
