As Lyon County is now approaching 5,600 total cases since the pandemic started in late March 2020, another area county has passed a caseload milestone of its own.
Osage County recently passed 2,000 total cases and is now at 2,003, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. With a population of almost 16,000 residents, 12.5 percent of the county population has contracted coronavirus over the course of the pandemic.
Coffey County is the third area county with at least 1,000 total infections since the pandemic began. It has 1,203 in Friday’s report from KDHE. Just under 15 percent of the county population has contracted the virus.

*Greenwood County: 974. Population: 5,924. Percent infected: 16.4
*Morris County: 778. Population: 5,746. Percent infected: 13.5
*Wabaunsee County: 919. Population: 6,969. Percent infected: 13.2
Lyon County’s population is 32,985. With 5,584 total cases, nearly 17 percent of Lyon County’s population has contracted the virus.
