One of two Hartford residents accused of animal cruelty after nearly 20 dogs were allegedly found in poor conditions this past May has accepted a plea agreement involving fewer cases.
Rhonda Staggs pleaded no contest to three misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty during a hearing Monday in Lyon County District Court. She had been facing 17 counts.
Sentencing is Dec. 22.
Staggs’ husband, Thomas, pleaded no contest to three counts of animal cruelty Oct. 13 after Lyon County deputies and the private group Guardians of the Wolves went to 303 East Grand in Hartford in May, removing 17 dogs from the property. Sentencing is Dec. 3.
