It has been several days, but residents of Olpe and Rural Water District No. 3 can start using their water again without the need to boil it first.
The city submitted several samples to Emporia’s water treatment plant for testing Friday, but Mayor Keith Pimple says one unfortunately failed. The city submitted another round of samples Monday, and Pimple got official word shortly after noon that the advisory would be lifted. The water sample testing process takes 24 hours before results can be considered official.
Issues developed early Thursday afternoon after Olpe’s water transmission line from Emporia developed a leak. Water service was almost completely offline for several hours for residents in the Olpe city limits and also for Rural Water District No. 3, which serves most of southwest Lyon County south of Road 110 and west of Kansas Highway 99.
