With details about the federal vaccine mandate finally announced Thursday, Republican Senators — including the two representing Kansas — are stepping up efforts to have that mandate nullified.
Roger Marshall and Jerry Moran say the decision to vaccinate should be personal. Marshall says the Biden administration’s mandate is unconstitutional.
Moran, meanwhile, says the mandate has a chance of upending recent momentum in the Kansas economy.
Announced in September, the mandate calls for full vaccinations for federal workers, contractors, businesses with at least 100 employees and healthcare facilities receiving federal funds. The rule, or the details behind the mandate, calls for full vaccination of these workers by Jan. 4 or workers will face weekly COVID tests and businesses could be fined $14,000 per infraction. Hospitals not in compliance could lose access to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements.
As many as two-thirds of American workers fall under this new mandate, according to ABC News.
