The Emporia State men held on for a 73-69 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State in their season opener Saturday.
The Hornets led by as many as 19 points late in the first half. Southwestern would cut the deficit to 1 in the 2nd half.
Trey Buchanan made 6 straight free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal the win for Emporia State. Buchanan led the Hornets with a game-high 31 points. Jumah’Ri Turner added 16 points and Kaden Evans finished with 12 points.
The Emporia State men will play Arkansas Tech Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 5 pm. Coverage on MIX 104.9 is slated to begin at 4:40 pm.
