USD 252 Southern Lyon County is continuing to bask in the glory of a recent honor bestowed upon the district from the state level.
Last week it was announced that the district had received not one, not two, not three but eight Kansas State Department of Education Kansans Can Star Awards. Of those awards, two were gold stars for both high school graduation and civic engagement.
Upon receiving the awards last week, the district was invited to present before the state board of education to discuss several areas of recognition, namely the civic engagement curriculum.
USD 252 Superintendent Mike Argabright says the praise for the achievement belongs to the entire district including administrators, staff and students.
The Kansans Can Star recognition program grants star awards each year to the district’s across the state for achieving success in eight areas including social-emotional growth, postsecondary success, high school graduation preparedness, kindergarten readiness, civic engagement, individual plans of study and the Commissioners Award.
USD 252 is the first and only school district in the state of Kansas to receive awards in all eight areas.
