As expected, one of the five defendants in the Jesus Avila murder case decided to bypass his preliminary hearing in the case.
Jovan Pecina, 20, waived his prelim Wednesday, so he will be back in Lyon County District Court for a pretrial and arraignment hearing Dec. 10.
Pecina is among four defendants charged with first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and other counts in Avila’s death four years ago, along with Jordy Cornejo-Campoverde, Andrew Granado and Alan Alanis. Another suspect, Armando Nunez, is facing charges of arson, aggravated battery and interference with law enforcement, but murder and conspiracy charges were recently dismissed.
