7 am Friday: Elevated fire danger continues areawide
Red flag warnings are unlikely across the KVOE listening area, but outdoor burning will not be allowed in Emporia on Friday and it will be strongly discouraged elsewhere across the KVOE listening area.
The Kansas Grassland Fire Danger Index will be very high for most of the KVOE listening area Friday, reflecting relative humidity levels at or below 30 percent, wind gusts possibly as high as 35 mph and grasses that have had less than half an inch of rainfall this month.
Controlled burns in Emporia are always banned when wind speeds are expected above 15 mph. Residents outside Emporia who conducted controlled burns earlier this week are asked to check those areas to make sure they don’t rekindle.
