Tis the season for giving and the Salvation Army of Emporia is helping area residents do just that with the annual Red Kettle Campaign.
The campaign began this past Saturday with kettles at seven different locations across Emporia. In terms of bell ringers, Salvation Army Lt. Mylie Hadden says they had a good turnout to begin the campaign, however, they’re still in need of more volunteers as the campaign continues.
Volunteers can sign up for a shift by visiting Registertoring.com. Hadden says the goal for this year’s campaign is $70,000 which she feels is an attainable goal.
Proceeds will go to benefit the Salvation Army’s emergency assistance program which contains a number of vital services for local residents according to Hadden.
Bell ringing takes place Monday-Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm through Christmas Eve. In addition to the traditional bell-ringing hours, the Salvation Army will again be holding two special days of ringing including the annual Badges United on Saturday, Dec. 11 and Real Estate Wednesday on Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 4 to 6 pm at Bluestem and Walmart.
