The Kansas Highway Patrol is looking for the driver that allegedly hit a second vehicle on the Kansas Turnpike northeast of Emporia early Thursday, causing minor injuries to the two people inside the second vehicle.
The Highway Patrol crash log says the wreck happened at mile marker 153.8, near the Lyon-Wabaunsee county line and about 26 miles northeast of Emporia around 3:45 am. The early indications are a pickup driven by 20-year-old Sleen Peter of St. Joseph, Missouri, was southbound and in front of the other vehicle — but the other vehicle hit the rear of Peter’s truck and sent it into a ditch. The other vehicle then allegedly fled the scene.
Peter and a passenger, 19-year-old Gentletrust Baelo, also of St. Joseph, were both taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected minor injuries.
There is currently no information available about the suspect vehicle or its driver. If you have information, call the Kansas Turnpike Authority at 316-652-2611.
