As the coronavirus pandemic continues and now overlaps the traditional slate of winter illnesses for the second straight year, Lyon County Public Health is encouraging residents to look more at ventilation as an effective tool to help against the entire slate of viruses now in place.
Public Health Emergency Preparedness Director Jennifer Millbern explains:
Millbern also encourages a “whole-body” approach to combat winter illnesses and COVID-19.
On COVID-19, Lyon County enters the Thanksgiving holiday weekend with 5,907 total cases and 150 active cases. Currently, the 18-23 age group still leads with the most total cases at 934, with the most adult cases in the 30-39 age group at 877.
Lyon County also ranks 13th in vaccinations per county and 19th overall in the state’s County COVID Rankings, which includes vaccinations, overall cases and tests. Morris County leads area counties in the COVID Rankings at seventh overall, while Greenwood County is last areawide and 76th overall.
One cluster listed two weeks ago by the state — Home Daycare Emporia — has been removed. However, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment says Northern Heights High School is now a cluster with five new cases over the past two weeks and, according to the district’s information, 51 new students in quarantine between Nov. 15 and this past Tuesday. The district announced 10 new infected students in its report this week.
The next Public Health data set on COVID-19 will be released Monday.
