A Wichita man was hurt in a crash east of Emporia on Friday afternoon.
Lyon County Deputy Brandon Early says the wreck happened shortly before 4 pm on Interstate 35 near mile marker 135, or at the Road R-1 junction. The early indications are the driver, 82-year-old Alice Wiggins of Wichita, fell asleep at the wheel. Her car hit the bridge guardrail over Road R-1. Wiggins woke up and stopped the car safely.
Wiggins was not listed as hurt, but 82-year-old Dale Wiggins was injured. He was taken to Newman Regional Health with suspected non-life-threatening injuries.
Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
