Thru traffic is blocked on East 12th between Mary and Whildin after a water main break.
Emporia Underground Utilities employees were called out to 12th and Mary shortly after 9 am after a 12-inch line failed. Public Works Director Dean Grant expects the line to be repaired Monday, although it could well be several days before the cutout around the line failure is patched.
The leak is in a combination residential-business area of town, with several living facilities nearby like Bluestem Apartments, Whittier Place Apartments and Wyndham Place Senior Living, as well as the pending home for Emporia Rescue Mission, St. Francis Ministries office and Abundant Harvest all within three blocks of the break site.
