USD 253 Emporia school administrators, contractors and even Logan Avenue staff and students got to turn some dirt as part of a significant event for the school Wednesday.
A formal groundbreaking ceremony was held to note the official start of construction at Logan Avenue as part of the nearly $80 million Building for the Future bond initiative districtwide. Improvements involve a new storm shelter, new multipurpose area, modernized classrooms, renovated kitchen space and new school entrance. Principal Vanessa Hinds says the safety features will help build a better learning environment.
Superintendent Allison Anderson-Harder agrees.
Board President Art Gutierrez attended classes at Logan Avenue as a young student. He was proud to envision what’s to come and how this will help both Logan Avenue and the district as a whole.
Logan Avenue becomes the fourth school to have construction underway as part of Building for the Future, and it essentially starts the second wave of construction across the district. Work at Walnut Elementary is nearly completed, with work also into the later stages at both Emporia High and the brand-new Jones Early Childhood Development Center near Riverside School.
