New Emporia City Manager Trey Cocking has hit the ground running his first few days in his new position.
In his first 48-hours as the city’s newest administrator Cocking says he has spent very little time in his office following a 7 am meeting Tuesday and preparing for his first city commission meeting Wednesday morning. In between meetings, Cocking has spent the majority of his time getting to better know his new colleagues both professionally and personally.
Cocking says he believes in order to properly coexist with another person he has to know the “whole human.”
Cocking’s desire to better acquaint himself with the local community has not gone unnoticed as Emporia Mayor Rob Gilligan says he appreciates how much Cocking is doing to better integrate himself into the Emporia community.
Cocking takes over the city manager’s role from Mark McAnarney who is set to officially retire at the end of this month after more than 30 years of working for the city of Emporia including serving as City Manager since 2014. A special reception honoring McAnarney and outgoing City Commissioner Jon Geitz is coming Dec. 17 at the White Auditorium Little Theater.
