Temperatures have been anything but winter-like so far the past few weeks, but once it starts feeling like winter outside, donations from the KVOE Mitten Trees — and a lot of them — will help those who need help staying warm.
This year saw a total of 904 hats, scarves, coats, socks and other winter clothing options donated. SOS Community Relations Director Kari Wedel says staffers will be busy getting these donations to people in need soon.
KVOE General Manager Ron Thomas called it “a special day.”
This year’s Mitten Trees were located at:
*Bluestem Farm & Ranch Supply – 2611 W. Hwy 50
*Graves Drugs – 609 Commercial
*Mel’s Tire – 915 Graham St.
*Emporia Public Library (compliments of Cargill, Inc.) – 110 E. 6th Ave
*Trox Gallery and Gifts and Gravel City Roasters – 715 Commercial
*Skin Studio – 710 Commercial
*NexTech Wireless — Flinthills Mall
Donations had been requested for several weeks. The annual drive lets residents donate a variety of winter clothing items to SOS by decorating a number of trees located throughout the community. Last year’s total was 569 items.
