With the Salvation Army of Emporia’s annual holiday fundraising drive in full swing, two recent special ringing events this past weekend have only helped push the agency closer to its 2021 goal.
During an interview on KVOE’s Morning Show Monday, Salvation Army Lt. Mylie Hadden stated the annual Badges United fundraiser Saturday morning brought in a grand total of right around $3,000. The Emporia Police Department finished in first followed by the Emporia Fire Department in second and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office in third.
The Lion’s Club match fundraiser brought in right around $2,000 giving a grand total of $5,000 for the weekend. Lt. Hadden says this is a major boost to the Red Kettle Campaign’s $70,000 goal.
While its more highly publicized, the Red Kettle Campaign is not the only fundraising drive going on at this time, as Lt. Hadden announced the Salvation Army is also in the midst of a “white paper campaign.”
The Red Kettle Campaign will continue through Christmas eve with all donations going to support a range of community services provided by the Salvation Army. Bell ringing takes place Monday-Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm through Christmas Eve.
One more special day of ringing is on the community calendar with the Real Estate Wednesday event coming up this Wednesday Dec. 15 from 4 to 6 pm at Bluestem and Walmart.
