Nine months after the switch was flipped, 4 Rivers General Manager Dennis Svanes is pleased with the efficiency and cost savings their new solar energy facility has provided to their customers.
The Americus facility went online back in June and according to Svanes it has met expectations for the most part aside from a few “minor glitches.”
Svanes says there is a likelihood that the company will look to expand its solar facilities in the future, however; there are no immediate plans at this time. He says any further expansion would be a balancing act it between finding the right location and making sure the project is cost-efficient.
The sun farm facility came about out of a partnership between 20 electric cooperatives and Today’s Power out of Arkansas which was designed to help produce 20 megawatts of solar energy. The facility has more than 3,500 solar panels which are capable of generating around 400 watts of power each.
