Winter break begins next week for USD 253 Emporia, and the district has made an adjustment to the community use of its facilities.
Starting Thursday, the district has closed all its facilities to outside groups or non-district events until further notice. The district says this follows a recent increase in coronavirus cases across Lyon County.
The district says it hopes to resume use of its facilities by community groups soon, and it will continue to monitor COVID cases before it decides when to start that process again.
Winter break begins Wednesday.
Meanwhile, USD 417 Morris County is starting its holiday break early — this weekend instead of Wednesday — because of an increased number of quarantines and as a way to prevent future quarantines during the holidays. Extracurricular activities Monday and Tuesday will not take place.
This comes as other area districts are closer to winter break and have had to make other adjustments due to COVID or other illnesses. Waverly Elementary and Junior-Senior High are closed Friday due to a combination of coronavirus and flu-like illnesses, although the daycare was open and classes at Lebo took place as normal. USD 386 Madison-Virgil went from classroom learning to homebound learning Wednesday and continues that Friday. Both districts have winter break starting this weekend.
