The Emporia State mens basketball team cruised to an 89-61 win over Northeastern State Saturday. The Hornets used a 19-7 run to close out the first half to take a 45-17 lead at halftime. They would lead by as many as 49 points in the 2nd half. Emporia State Coach Craig Doty said the defense set the tone for the night.
Jumah’Ri Turner led Emporia States offense scoring a game-high 23 points. He also added 5 assists and 5 steals.
Tray Buchanan added 22 points. Kaden Evans was 5 for 9 from the 3 point line and finished with 15 points.
The Emporia State men improved to 8-3 for the season and 3-2 in the MIAA.
The Emporia State women used an 18-7 run to close out the first quarter on the way to a 66-59 win over Northeastern Oklahoma State. The Lady Hornets trailed early in the game but once they took the lead they did not trail the rest of the game. Coach Toby Wynn said one of the big advantages was 14 points off of turnovers.
Tre’Zure Jobe and Fredricka Sheats both finished with 17 points to lead the Lady Hornet offense.
Karsen Schultz added 12 points.
The Lady Hornets are now 7-4 for the season and 2-3 in the MIAA.
Both the Emporia State women and men host Rogers State Monday.
Women play at 1:10 pm and the men play at 3:30 pm.
