Emporia Fire has concluded its investigation into a destructive fire that destroyed a mobile home in southwest Emporia Sunday.
According to Emporia Fire Captain Willie Ward, the cause of the fire was deemed “accidental.” Ward stated in a news release that the fire was caused by the spray foam which was being used as insulation near an open flame.
Emporia and Americus Firefighters were called to the residence at 2640 Recency Drive shortly after 3 pm and managed to extinguish the flames in quick order. However, the flames still caused extensive damage and the home has been deemed a total loss.
One resident was home at the time of the fire and managed to get out safely. No injuries were reported.

Emporia Fire is working to determine the cause of a fire that destroyed one mobile home in southwest Emporia Sunday afternoon.
Fire crews were called to 2640 Regency Drive shortly before 3 pm for a reported structure fire. Emporia Fire Captain Willie Ward.
Smoke covered the immediate area and blew across portions of West US Highway 50 limiting visibility in the vicinity as crews worked to quell the flames.
Ward says the home has been considered a total loss. The cause and origination point of the fire are pending further investigation.
Americus firefighters also responded to the scene.
The fire comes exactly a week after a destructive fire at the former Hornets Pointe Apartment Complex at 1325 Merchant Street.

Emporia and area fire crews have managed to contain a structure fire in southwest Emporia but not before it destroyed a mobile home.
Fire crews were called to 4260 Regency Drive shortly before 3 pm for a reported structure fire. Information is pending, however, thick black smoke was visible across West US Highway 50 coming from a residence at the West Hills Mobile Home Park.
Full damage estimates are pending, however, the home is likely a total loss. A cause and origination point of the fire are pending further investigation.
At least one resident was home at the time of the fire, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
Americus firefighters also responded to the scene.
