Construction is tentatively planned to begin later this year on a new greenhouse and interior renovations for Hetlinger Developmental Services.
Last year, Hetlinger reached the end of its Planting Hope fundraising campaign focused on developing a new horticultural therapy program for its clients. Hetlinger Executive Director Trudy Hutchinson says the new program will provide a number of benefits to their clients, namely an increased level of self-assurance and confidence.
According to Hutchinson, construction is set to begin sometime this spring and should, weather permitted, wrap up by mid-summer. In addition to the greenhouse, Hetlinger will be remodeling a portion of its main facility into a kitchen where clients will be able to cook the fruits and vegetables grown in the greenhouse.
A timeline for the remodel is dependant on when materials arrive which may be impacted by national supply chain shortages which have been impacting the country well over the past year. Construction will come following the conclusion of Hetlingers Everday Heroes fund drive which officially wrapped up Dec. 31.
That being said, Hutchinson says they will continue to accept donations for the fund drive through the remainder of this month. If you would like to donate you can call Hetlinger at 620-342-1087 or visit them at 707 S. Commercial Street.
Masks are required to enter the Hetlinger facility.
