A valve repair project at Fifth and State led Emporia Public Works to open a hydrant a block away.
Public Works Director Dean Grant says crews opened a hydrant at Sixth and State to make sure the work zone at Fifth and State didn’t have any extra water-related issues. There was some water across the Sixth and State intersection as a result, and with temperatures possibly going under 20 degrees overnight, drivers in that area will need to be careful after sunset.
A similar valve repair project is expected at Fourth and State on Wednesday. Grant says hydrants may need to be opened at Fifth and State or Sixth and State, depending on how things go.
