Things are progressing to restore emergency services to women in crisis situations through a revived Plumb Place agency.
On KVOE’s Morning Show on Thursday, United Way Chief Executive Officer Mickey Edwards said a potential buyer for the Preston Plumb home, 224 East Sixth, has been identified but not yet approved after the home was officially placed on the market in late October. Edwards says the prospective buyer has demonstrated an ability to maintain the home, which is something the board has deemed as important as the overall process continues.
Word on when Lyon County District Court will approve the buyer is currently pending. With that decision coming, the Board of Directors is putting in a lot of behind-the-scenes work.
The board is also determining who will be served — women with children has been identified as a possible expansion of previous policy — and how women will be housed.
Plumb Place closed its doors at the end of 2020 after a century of serving women in crisis. The theft of over $50,000 from 2014 to mid-2017 put the agency in a financial hole from which it didn’t recover. No charges have been announced since the case was made public in 2018.
