Emporia Fire is investigating after a late morning fire in an Emporia duplex Thursday.
According to Battalion Chief Tony Fuller, crews were called out to 314 West Street just after 11 am for a structure fire inside the duplex. Fuller says smoke was visible from the eaves of the residence and firefighters found flames in the attic and a divider wall after making entry into the duplex.
There was one resident inside the residence at the time of the fire and according to Fuller he and the owner attempted to extinguish the flames before EFD’s arrival on scene but were unsuccessful. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
A cause and origination point have yet to be determined and damage estimates are currently pending, however, Fuller says the Red Cross has been contacted to provide lodgings for one of the residents while another made accommodation arrangements of their own.
