Emporia Fire says Thursday’s duplex fire in central Emporia caused extensive damage, but the cause will go down as undetermined.
Battalion Chief Tony Fuller says the cause at 314 West is most likely electrical in nature, but it may not be limited to electrical issues.
Damage happened in the attic space and wall space, and Fuller says the origination points are most likely in those spaces but may not be limited to those areas of the duplex.
Firefighters were called to the duplex shortly before 11:15 am, finding smoke coming from the attic. The fire affected duplex units at 314 and 316 West and was knocked down quickly, but it took close to three hours before firefighters cleared the scene.
Damage was estimated at around $25,000. The Red Cross was contacted to help one of the residents with lodging arrangements.
Resident names have not been announced. The duplex is owned by Randall Ricketts.
