With no guarantees of a 2022 major league baseball season due to labor issues, the Kansas City Royals have canceled the annual Fan Fest preseason celebration for another reason.
This week, the Royals announced Fan Fest will be canceled, essentially due to COVID-19. The team says it’s not practical to have “an event of this magnitude in a manner our fans deserve” with ongoing public health warnings and potential restrictions on hotels and other events.
Fan Fest was supposed to take place near the end of this month at the Kansas City Convention Center. The Royals say they are looking at new ways to connect with fans, either virtually or through other means, as the offseason continues.
Major league baseball players are locked out until further notice. KC’s current schedule has exhibition games starting Feb. 26 in Arizona and the regular season starting March 31 in Cleveland.
