One Emporia church is doing what it can to help parents of very young children with supplies.
First Congregational Church officially opened its Baby Closet on Sunday, and Pastor Cheryl Henson says preparations have been underway for months.
Diapers, clothing, handmade quilts, strollers and bedding — and more — will be available at no cost. Parents with newborns up to age 5 are eligible to receive items, and Henson says there are no income limits because infants and toddlers may not have the number of services available to them that other ages do. However, there will likely be some limits on how many items can be taken home.
Henson says the congregation is fully behind the project, and she thanked the community for donations — including funds from Farb Bureau, the Emporia Masonic Lodge, Emporia Lions Club, area PEO groups and the Reading United Methodist Church alongside anonymous clothing donations from community members.
Henson says the Baby Closet will be open the second Tuesday of the month from 10 am to noon, Thursdays from 4-6 pm and Saturdays from 9-11 am.
